NONLOCALITY
2018 | An Urban Threshold- A Platform of Temporary Shelter, Education,Production and Communication
“Maybe being powerful means to be a fragile” Ai Weiwei. Aim is focusing on fragile groups of people.
New life scenario; inspired by quantum physics, nonlocality occurs due to the phenomenon of entanglement, whereby particles that interact with each other become permanently correlated or dependent on each other’s states and properties, to the extent that they effectively lose their individuality and behave as a single entity in many ways. ‘Nonlocality’ project aims to provide coexistence for people of no man’s land by adding a nonlocal structure. The nonlocality concept operates separated spaces into united places by concentrating on use of public space and the sea view. Protection and imagination are crucial concerns for the design. Sea and the ‘shell’ relation will help meet the needs. Marmara Sea view from Yenikapı is both finite and infinite; to be able to see the opposite coast is a weather dependent case. To have infinity triggers imagination whereas seeing the other coast helps with the feeling of safeness. Shelter structures adapt into existing architectural texture.
